Pregnancy Pilates

At Athboy Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic we run small group Antenatal / Pregnancy Pilates classes. The classes are ran by our Clinical Pilates Instructor who is fully Certified with APPI, the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute.

These classes are specifically designed and modified for Pregnancy and we recommend that you are at least 12 weeks pregnant before you start the classes. The benefits of exercising during pregnancy are numerous and Clinical Pilates will help to:

  • Maintain and improve your levels of fitness throughout Pregnancy
  • Prevent the incidence of Lower Back and Pelvic Girdle Pain as your baby grows
  • Improve upper body posture and strength
  • Maintain Flexibility
  • Maintain Pelvic Floor Muscle strength and prevent incontinence
  • Prepare you and your body for labour
  • Decrease stress levels and promote relaxation
Before starting the classes, we will assess you individually and complete a Health Screening form for safe exercise during Pregnancy to ensure that this class is right for you.

The Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP) association recommends Modified Pilates exercises during Pregnancy due to the number of positive benefits and they are commonly used in Women’s Health Physiotherapy. Classes run for approx. 45 minutes and all equipment and water is provided.
